Facilitating Learning

The 70/20/10 learning concept*

At Papilio Novare we believe that learning takes place:

70% from real life and on-the-job experiences, tasks and problem solving. This is the most important aspect of any learning and development plan., e.g.:

  • Leading a team meeting.
  • Represent your team at a cross-functional meeting.
  • Work on challenging or new projects.
  • Interview potential new employees.
  • Teach something new to team members.

20% from feedback and from observing and working with role models, e.g.:

  • Shadow a high-performer.
  • Get a coach.
  • Apply to participate as a mentee in a mentoring program.
  • Informally solicit feedback from your peers, direct manager, and other managers.
  • Attend an outside networking event specific to your role or interests.

10% from formal training and workshops

Our programmes will:

- Be highly participative, fun, inspiring, emotional, challenging, and outcomes focused.

- Include activities designed to promote learning, growth and discussion. These may at times be physical and adventurous, or at other times may involve discussion and intellect.

- Involve facilitated discussion, experiential exercises, debriefing, drawing, role-playing, creative invention, and expert input.

- Devote ample time for reflection, debriefing of the experiences, and discussion of the learning that can be applied in the workplace.

- Guide participants in creating action plans and milestones, and tactics for success.

* The 70/20/10 learning concept is developed by M. McCall, R.W. Eichinger, and M.M. Lombardo at the Center for Creative Leadership.
